Me and My Karimganj College Students Union
I think it's really a nice feeling to remember the time that we've spent in school or college. In my experience, I have witnessed so much (good and bad) and treasured all of them for my reference. I have learnt a lot while studying in the college and I am glad that I am able to follow and implement all these experiences in my professional as well as personal life.
I was not a very good student and wasn't really concentrating on studies and for me College life was all about student politics, votes, campaigning and fighting for students demand etc. etc. I will never forget the time when I was elected as General Secretary (GS) of Karimganj College Student's Union (KCSU) and it was a big challenge for me to win. I was advised by my friend to go home and relax as soon as voting was over. At home, I was anxiously waiting to hear the result. I still remember when my family members and friends gathered to give me the news that I was elected. At that time I was overwhelmed as all the hard work was paid off.
At that time, GS of Karimganj College was a very responsible position and I was there to lead any student activities for good causes and any concerns related to students. I always believe that it is very important to give the best in whatever we do and if the best is not enough then I leave it to God. In fact, I had taken extra step to go forward to lead any other general issues relating to people of Karimganj.
As I was involved with a particular political party (Congress), I felt that I was not gaining confidence of those students, who believed in different ideology when needed. But, I still carried on playing my part as a Student Representative and I think to some extent, I was able to gain confidence of students of different political/thinking group who didn't have confidence in me in the first place. Sometime, it's good to face difficult time and then win it with positive outcome.
Most of the things that I wanted were possible as I was surrounded with wonderful people who made my life easier. My father Mr Badal Bhattacharjee (Former President, Dist. Youth Congrees and Secretary Dist. Congress) and mother Mrs Jayasree Bhattacharjee has always been very supportive and helpful. Both my parents guided me throughout towards the right direction so that I can achieve the result.
I was selected to stay as GS for the second term as student election did not take place because of the tensed situation surrounded by riot in Hailakandi. College Authority/Governing Body decided not to go ahead to arrange for the election as this riot might have created a negative impact on students and could have caused damage to the unity among students.
I became Vice-President (VP) of the Student's Union and I was very glad that my hard work got recognised as students voted me again when needed. Since then I have always won, although I have never fought any general election and for me winning the College election was not less than that. I left the college in the same year after completion of my graduation.
I am grateful to God as everything is happening in my life the way I want it to be. I am living in London with my wife and daughter, working within Social Housing Sector. I think I am really happy and lucky that I have achieved something positive in my life so far. I know that I still have to go a long way to achieve more. I understand that there are so many more things to learn and I am yet to discover lot of wonderful things in my life.
